Tricking yourself into forgiveness Ceilon Aspensen, December 12, 2014January 2, 2022 “Still Waters.” Waterton Lake, Waterton, Alberta, CA. Copyright © 2019. Ceilon Aspensen. All rights reserved. I learned a LOT about forgiveness this year. The most important thing I learned is that forgiveness is a trick you play on yourself. Your resistance to forgiveness is usually rooted in not letting the other person get away with what he did to you. But the lesson is that when you finally are able to forgive him, YOU are the one who is off the hook, and experiences peace, and feels lighter, and breathes easier. The other person? He has no power over you anymore. But the funny thing is that you won’t care, because it doesn’t matter, because forgiveness is all about YOU. Life is good, and I am grateful.
